Membership Terms & Conditions
Registration
You can begin to use the Members Only portion of the site after filling out our online registration form and submitting it with us. Premium members have complete access to the full range of services and information on our web site. Registered members have limited access to select services. By registering with us, you agree to provide accurate and current information about yourself and to update that information if it changes.
Benefits
All Premium members may:
- Find and research potential employers using our employer directory which is updated regularly.
- Search for members in the member directory.
- Read and post messages on the BBS.
- Receive email from other members without them knowing your real email address.
- Receive SPSC-specific information.
- Receive our newsletter and various other emails which provides information of interest to SPSC members.
Conduct
Although we do not intend to regularly screen or edit information that is posted or shared by members, we reserve the right to remove any objectionable information, at our discretion, without notice.
Please contact SPSC in the event you need to report abusive conduct. Although we have no obligation to police the site, we do try to remove content that is clearly inappropriate when it is brought to our attention.
Members agree to:
- Follow all local, state, national and international laws and regulations.
- Take responsibility for all acts that occur under your account or password, including any content transmitted or broadcast from your account.
- Maintain the confidentiality of your password and login identity.
- Comply with all intellectual property and other proprietary rights laws, including but not limited to federal copyright and trademark laws, in the use of the site and in making your personal profile and submissions of information.
- Provide only accurate and appropriate personal information about yourself.
- Please do not post sexually explicit language.
- Avoid postings that would be a violation of your employer's policies.
Members agree NOT to:
- Use false names when registering or communicating on our site.
- Use your access to SPSC for any commercial purpose unless it is in the Software Bazaar.
- Send junk mail to our members or solicit our members for commercial purposes.
- Republish information found in the site without first obtaining written permission from SPSC.
- Post any false, misleading, slanderous, libelous, or inaccurate information about others on our site. In the event you do, we have the right to release your identifying information to the police, our attorneys or the individual you mentioned in your posting so that they may take action against you.
- Post any material that is not entirely your own or for which you do not have full rights to use.
- Use any device, software, or routine to interfere (or attempt to interfere) with the proper working of SPSC's Site or any activity being conducted on this Site.
- Post insider information or corporate trade secrets.
- Post inaccurate or deceptive information about yourself, others or your employer.
- Post threats of bodily harm or any other illegal activities.
- Take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on this Site's infrastructure (including without limitation, "flooding," "spamming," "mailbombing," or "crashing" the Site).
Other important rules:
- SPSC reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate access to the site at any time without notice if you are suspected of violating any of these Terms of Service. We also reserve the right, on occasion, to require you to change your login name and password.
- Swearing, obscenities, and inappropriate behavior (as solely determined by SPSC) on bulletin or message boards, chat rooms, or otherwise on the site will not be tolerated, and your membership will be immediately terminated if we determine that you have participated in such behavior on the site.
Consequences for abusive conduct:
In the event you violate these Terms of Service, SPSC has the right to terminate your account. In the event of a serious violation (as solely determined by SPSC). SPSC may also file suit against you for business interference or other appropriate legal theories and we will seek compensation from you for potential damage to our reputation caused by your actions. SPSC will cooperate with the authorities on any said suspected violations.
Privacy Statement
The following statement discloses SPSC's information gathering and dissemination practices.
SPSC maintains member databases that contain mailing, billing, and member profile information. The information in these databases is used by authorized SPSC staff members to process orders; mail invoices, purchases, renewal notices, and announcements; and respond to member inquiries. Member records are maintained as long as an individual is a SPSC member and for three years following a membership lapse. Purchase and registration databases may be retained for up to three years.
SPSC logs all accesses from your IP address to our Web site, and summary information derived from these logs may be displayed on the Web
Personal information is stored in a relational database and standard security methods are used to protect it. We require full confirmation of identity before releasing information back to the user for update over the Web.
Commercial information (such as credit card numbers) is obtained using an external secure Web server. We do not keep this information unless requested by the user.
Electronic Communication
SPSC does not rent or sell email addresses. SPSC may use email addresses to contact members to answer member questions or to acknowledge the receipt of membership applications and other orders, to send membership renewal notices, and to send occasional announcements about SPSC events to those members who have not opted out of receiving such announcements. These announcements are short straightforward messages that contain pointers to online resources where members can explore the information more fully.
Postal Mail
SPSC uses the postal addresses of its members to mail invoices, products, and announcements from SPSC. The names and mailing addresses of members who have not opted out (see below) may be rented to outside organizations to send mailing packages that have been carefully screened by authorized SPSC staff for their suitability. SPSC member names and mailing addresses are never sold.
Opt-Out
Our site gives you the opportunity to opt out from either receiving email communications or from having your name and address made available to anyone other than the SPSC Association. When registering for a conference, you have the option not to be on the Attendee list.
Change/Modify
The SPSC site gives users the opportunity to change and modify information previously provided by using the online form found at www.softwareprofessionals.ca.

This site contains links to other sites. SPSC is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.

The SPSC web sites contain some content provided by third parties. That content is the sole responsibility of the provider, who is responsible for ensuring that it is accurate and legal in terms of intellectual property, obscenity, and the transmission of technology and cryptography information. SPSC will not take responsibility for reviewing this content, for its accuracy, or for the consequences of its use.
Web site visitors may find inaccurate, offensive, or copyrighted content. Site visitors should evaluate what they read in this light; they take responsibility for the consequences of their use of the web sites and any information read there.
SPSC reserves the right to take action to remove content that doesn't conform to this policy. SPSC may also take steps against anyone submitting disallowed content, including but not limited to disabling their accounts used for the web sites.
Anyone who would like content removed from the web sites because of copyright infringement should send SPSC the following: full name and contact information; a description of the copyrighted material; the URL(s) of the web pages and the specific copy at issue; a statement of ownership of the copyright or legal right to act on the owner's behalf, and of belief that the copyright does not allow the use of the web site content; and an electronic or physical signature.
Anyone providing content to SPSC through our BBS for display there agrees that SPSC may use that content in any medium and in other contexts.
